Ramsagar Dighi
The largest man-made tank in the country.
Dinajpur Sadar, Dinajpur district, Rangpur Division

Raja Ram Nath had this tank dug in the early 1750s, in years of drought, and it carries his name. The water is about a kilometre long, with a high wooded bank all the way round, and since 2001 the tank and its banks have been a national park. It is a place for a slow walk and a rest by the water rather than for monuments.
What to see
The tank from the bank
Climb the bank near the entrance for the first full view down the length of the water.
The path round the water
A shaded road runs all the way round. The full circuit is a long walk; go part of the way and come back if you are short of time.
The deer
Look for the deer kept in the small park.
How to go round
Take in the view from the bank, walk along the water under the trees, see the deer, and sit a while before you leave. An hour to an hour and a half is comfortable.
Make the most of it
- Late afternoon is the best hour, when the light comes low across the water.
- Bring something to eat and sit under the trees; in winter the park fills with picnic groups, so come on a weekday for quiet.
Getting there
About 8 km south of Dinajpur town; there is no direct bus, so take an auto-rickshaw or CNG.
